The Legacy Of Martin Luther King
In my opinion, the effectiveness and the impact of Martin Luther King was rather tremendous and has changed the world's view upon the discriminated. Without Martin Luther King and his civil rights movement, it is likely that the world would not have ended up like today ; segregation and extreme prejudice against African- American would still exist. Due to Martin's actions, the poverty rate decreased by nearly 7% . Furthermore, both the standard of living and quality of living for African-American increased significantly.
To start off, Martin Luther King had a big impact in the politics and was able to advance the civil rights movement. Undoubtedly, Martin Luther King was a rather talented man in politics and had earned a lot of respect from other political leaders other than the exception of organizations like the K.K.K (an organization motivated to annihilate all African-American) for being successful with nonviolent protests. Furthermore, by earning the respects of people with high political status, he was able to receive backup and support with the civil rights movement. Also, thanks to the success of the campaign, during the year 1965, African-Americans were given the right to participate in politics by being given the rights to vote.
Secondly, Martin Luther King had the biggest impact towards the social aspect because he was able to alternate the vision of the public on the African-Americans. Back in 1954, where Martin had first started the campaign; it is known as the civil rights movement. The reason why Martin had decided to take this into action was because he wanted a world where everyone received fairness and a world where everyone was treated equally. During the campaign, he had held several famous actions, for example the speech "I have a dream". Martin was known for his phenomenal speeches and as mentioned above, the speech, "I have a dream" was very effective upon the public and made them question themselves and had caused a lot of people to follow Martin and to provide assistance with the campaign. As a result, he was able to alter the public's opinions towards black people and made the quality of life better for the African-Americans.
Last but not least, Martin's impact upon economy was visible but not too great. After the civil rights movement and his death, the black's quality of life and both standard of living were able to improve as they were given more opportunities and jobs. Additionally, as the blacks started to take part in the economical aspect, the overall unemployment rate decreased from 6.3 % to about 4.2%, improving america's economy. However, most companies and work areas still prohibited blacks as they thought that it would seem degrading to have such race of humankind to work for them. Therefore Martin Luther King's impact upon America and the African-American was substantial.
